A Digital Dns guide

DNS setup on Linux

Configure Digital Dns on Linux with GNOME and NetworkManager, use nmcli, inspect settings and restore automatic DNS

DNS addresses

IPv4 · 1185.118.15.14
IPv4 · 2185.118.15.15

Setup steps

  1. This guide covers GNOME desktops using NetworkManager, including Ubuntu and Fedora Menu names may vary

  2. Open Settings, then select Network or Wi-Fi

  3. Click the gear beside your active connection to edit that connection

  4. Record the current DNS servers and settings so you can restore them

  5. Open the IPv4 tab

  6. Keep the IP method on Automatic (DHCP) or its current value; leave the IP address and gateway unchanged

  7. Turn off Automatic in the DNS section only

  8. Enter both DNS addresses below in the DNS field, separated by a comma:

    IPv4 · 1185.118.15.14
    IPv4 · 2185.118.15.15
  9. Click Apply, then reconnect once To return to automatic DNS, enable Automatic in the DNS section

NetworkManager terminal method

For systems with nmcli installed

Replace CONNECTION_NAME with the exact connection name from step 1 and keep the quotes Record your previous settings first Reconnecting may briefly interrupt the network

1. Find the active connection name
nmcli connection show --active
2. Set DNS for that connection
sudo nmcli connection modify "CONNECTION_NAME" ipv4.ignore-auto-dns yes ipv4.dns "185.118.15.14 185.118.15.15"
3. Reconnect to apply the settings
sudo nmcli connection up "CONNECTION_NAME"
4. Inspect the applied DNS servers
nmcli -f IP4.DNS,IP6.DNS device show

These commands configure IPv4 DNS If the output shows other IPv6 DNS servers, review that connection's IPv6 DNS settings too Browsers, VPNs and other connections may use separate DNS This is standard DNS; use the DoH or DoT guide for encryption

Return to automatic IPv4 DNS

Use these commands to return to automatic DHCP DNS If you previously used custom DNS, restore those recorded values instead

sudo nmcli connection modify "CONNECTION_NAME" ipv4.ignore-auto-dns no ipv4.dns "" sudo nmcli connection up "CONNECTION_NAME"

Check the connection and troubleshoot

This guide covers connections managed by NetworkManager Consult the relevant documentation first if systemd-networkd or another tool manages your network Before running commands, take the active profile name from nmcli and keep a record of the current configuration Do not substitute a guessed interface name

If settings do not take effect after reconnecting, check the active profile and separate IPv6 DNS VPNs and browser DNS may also have independent settings Restore automatic DNS or recorded previous values if connectivity fails Reactivating the connection can briefly interrupt network access

DoH and DoT settings

Use the full HTTPS URL in a DoH-compatible app or browser For Android Private DNS, enter only the DoT hostname without a port or https://
